I just wanted to let people know that there is now a Functional Medicine doctor at Midcoast Medicine in Rockport. His name is Dr. Chaffin. http://www.midcoastmedicine.com/physicians.html I went and interviewed him today and while I'm sure it's a challenge to work with the system as it is (straddling the allopathic and holistic paradigms) we are psyched to have someone LOCALLY who is willing to do it. He can order the functional medicine tests and provide care that we've all had to travel to Women to Women or True North for-- 3 hour round trips. So Hurray! I'd love to hear about your feedback and experiences. If you'd like to learn more about functional medicine, click here:http://www.functionalmedicine.org/about/whatis.asp

Jenny Bell and Brien Davis are both awesome, of course, really filling a need locally for informed, broad-minded, compassionate care with visits that last longer than the 7 minute average. They spend an hour on an initial visit and 30 minutes otherwise. It can't be easy being squeezed between doing what's right and doing what the insurance companies want. They are at http://www.hopehealthfnp.com/

Another Primary Care Practitioner--

I just met Dr. Julie Barter, a naturopathic physician in Camden.   I felt she was more open to see me as a unique individual person than any other practitioner I have met in my 60 years!  She, too, can order tests and prescribe some medications while also using homeopathy, herbs, and other modalities.  In addition to being a naturopathic physician, she is a biochemist and a chiropractor.

I have dealt with hypothyroid issues off and on since childhood.  Dr. Julie ordered some tests that no one, not even an endocrinologist, had previously ordered for me.  She told me I may be able to get off my thyroid meds, something no other doctor has been willing to consider.

I would strongly encourage folks to meet with this new doctor in our area.  230-1131
